Press Release: Announcing the Release of The First Comprehensive Book in Farsi about the Holocaust

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Holocaust

Ari Babaknia, MD releases the 4-volume book The Holocaust - Man’s Inhumanity to Man – the first comprehensive book about the Holocaust history in Farsi.

The Holocaust Man’s Inhumanity to Man is the first Farsi chronicle of the darkest side of the history of mankind. The 4-volume book describes how the hatred toward the Jews began and evolved throughout the history and led to a catastrophe we now know as the ‘Holocaust’. The collection depicts the world’s reaction as the news of human sufferings in the Nazi’s Concentration Camps unfolded. It offers victims’ testimonies as well as the perpetrators’, a substantial assortment of documents, news articles, and researches conducted by historians and Holocaust scholars.

Los Angeles, California – April 17th, 2012 – Ari Babaknia, MD, a Johns Hopkins trained physician who is currently the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board of the Los Angeles Center for Women’s Health releases the 4-volume book The Holocaust – Man’s Inhumanity to Man – the first comprehensive book on the history of the Holocaust for more than 100 million Farsi speakers throughout the world. There has not been a comprehensive book in Farsi about the Holocaust backed by numerous photos and documents that gives an in-depth review of the events leading to the mass murder of European Jewish men, women and children.

Dr. Babaknia began his research on the Holocaust fifteen years ago. He wanted to know why and how the Jews of Europe were destroyed and why and how the world allowed it to happen.

As a physician, he needed to know what it is in human nature and institutions that makes events such as the Holocaust possible. What was the source of the moral immunity felt by the Nazi killers? What enabled SS men to murder children, the old, and the sick with a sense of justification? What was the reason for the senseless indifference of the world?

What sets the Holocaust apart from other crimes committed in the world was neither the number of victims, nor the way of their murder, nor the proportion of the murdered compared to the total number of the targeted victims. After all, many more Russians were murdered by the Nazis than Jews. And, while most of the victims of the gas chambers were Jews, some were not; Gypsies, Soviet POWs and others also perished there. The Holocaust was different from the other instances of mass murder because a whole people identified by the faith of their birth were selected to die. The Jews had to do nothing to give offense; it was sufficient simply to be and they suffered only because they were. The Nazi regime decided that the whole people of “a race” should die- a power no one or no government should have.

The national launch of the book has been scheduled on April 17th, 2012 at 7:00 PM at the Museum of Tolerance. Holocaust scholar and director of the Sigi Ziering Institute Dr. Michael Berenbaum moderates a discussion with author Dr. Ari Babaknia and the book’s editor, Reza Goharzad. Other speakers: Liebe Geft, Director of the Museum of Tolerance and Adaire Klein, Director of the Library & Archival Services, Simon Wiesenthal Center.
